A walk in the Woods in Kitty Hawk

Kitty Hawk Woods

One of my favorite hidden gems on the Outer Banks is Kitty Hawk Woods, a part of the North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve. The reserve is 461 acres, and with loop and out and back trails, there are plenty of options for a walk or run in the woods. I have even gone sledding there during one of our rare snow days! Pets are allowed, so I usually take my dog. The trails are well marked and there are informational signs along the way with interesting facts about the local wildlife and ecology. Some hunting is allowed, as is horseback riding. There are several access points within the town of Kitty Hawk. Click here for more information.
